If you're not already hooked on pickleball, let me introduce you to the sport: part tennis, part ping-pong, and 100% addicting. But my guess is, if you're reading this post, you're already as hooked as I am! My parents first introduced me to the sport by putting up a net in their driveway. There weren't any real lines (STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN! IYKYK- hehe) but man, that dink of the ball hooked me! It's just so satisfying and not quite as intense as tennis. We have a local park that converted a few tennis courts into pickleball courts so we got to play a bit this summer. We also have a membership to our local athletic club, and I've just signed up to start pickleball lessons this January. So watch out, retirement community, I'm coming for you in the Summer of 2025!
Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting to paddle your way into the game, having the right gear and tricks up your sleeve can make all the difference. Let’s dive into the world of pickleball accessories and pro tips so you can serve, volley, and dink like a champ.

Premium Pickleball Paddles
A solid paddle isn’t just for show—it’s your trusty sidekick. Look for lightweight graphite or composite paddles that offer great control and power. Bonus points if it comes in a design that matches your court swagger.
I am NOT an expert on the best of the best paddles. (Not yet, at least) I did some research to see what paddles seemed to pop up in terms of the best overall pickleball paddles for a very reasonable price and then a few of them I had to include for those of you who want a stylish paddle.

Picky about Pickleballs
Not all balls are created equal. Opt for outdoor pickleballs with precision-drilled holes to ensure consistent bounce and wind resistance. Indoor players, grab softer balls for that signature pop without breaking a sweat. Or if you don't care so much about performance, I have some great options for super good-looking ones.

Tips and Tricks to Elevate Your Pickleball Game
1. Master the Dink Game - A dink isn’t just fun to say; it’s one of the smartest moves on the court. Keep the ball low and unattackable near the net to frustrate your opponents.
2. Stay Out of the Kitchen - No, we’re not talking about meal prep. The "kitchen" (non-volley zone) is a strategic no-go for overzealous smashes. Position yourself smartly to avoid giving away easy points.
3. Perfect Your Serve - A strong serve sets the tone. Practice targeting deep corners or adding a little spin to keep your opponent guessing.
4. Watch Your Footwork - Pickleball is all about agility. Stay light on your toes and ready to pivot, especially during fast-paced rallies. Please be careful! We have an orthopedic surgeon friend who said pickleball injuries are some of the most common she's getting these days.
5. Communication Is Key - If you’re playing doubles, shout it out! Good communication ensures no balls fall through the cracks (and keeps your partner from giving you the side-eye). My husband and I are taking the lesson together in January, so I'll be happy to update this blog to report back on how our "communication" is going.
So, what are you waiting for? Pick up these essential pickleball accessories, hit the court, and let the smashing, dinking, and serving begin. And remember, whether you win or lose, the real victory is looking good while playing the hottest game in town.
