After visiting a Halloween costume store this week and getting our pumpkins and mums arranged on the porch, what hits our mailbox? The Amazon Holiday Toy Catalog. And just like that, my son’s attention went from Halloween to Christmas. After circling everything he wanted, he did go back to running around our house wearing the Scream mask - so all is right in the (Halloween) world.
Here in Michigan, it’s finally starting to cool off and get to those crisp fall days. I know I need to switch my closet from summer to winter clothes, which I both love and hate. It’s a good time to take stock of what I want to donate and what I want to purchase for a new cold season.
Our week was full of soccer, tennis, playdates, installing a new cooktop, making sourdough and finishing the book The Cliffs by J. Courtney Sullivan. I'm hoping for a more chill weekend and lots of sleep.
We’re going to see The Wild Robot on Friday night and I splurged to get VIP seats - let’s hope I don’t get too comfortable and fall asleep. Saturday, we’ll be working on a fall yard clean-up, and hopefully, we will take a trip to our favorite local apple orchard. I plan to make this apple crumble with our selections from the orchard. Sunday brings the ever-so-fun top-to-bottom cleaning of our house, hopefully rewarded with an early dinner at our local pizza joint. Here are a few links to things I loved this week and are on my mind heading into the weekend!
I recently watched a YouTube video about decoupaging seashells with paper napkins and making them into trinket dishes. It’s inspiring me to make my own. What a simple and lovely gift they would make!
A guide to apple picking for those of you also hitting up the orchards.
Ina Garten's new memoir, Be Ready When The Luck Happens, has been added to my fall reading list.
I am loving these trouser jeans.
I'm so excited to get tickets to NPR Presents: Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! when it comes to town to Detroit in November.
I return to the poem Joy Chose You by Donna Ashworth time and time again. I find myself reading the beautiful words now, more than ever, when the news and upcoming election feel overwhelming.
Speaking of going to the movies, here is Vanity Fair's guide to the 47 New Movies This Fall.
Using mums as fall decor? Here is a guide to make them last!
This khaki velvet headband is oh so pretty for fall.
Okay, so maybe Christmas is on my mind as well... Target will release the new Studio McGee Holiday Collection on October 7. Looks like some really cute things! I have my eye on some of the new holiday wall art.
Go make the weekend spectacular!
