15 Essentials For a 5-Star Guest Bedroom
Okay, okay, maybe you don’t want your guests to become permanent residents. But you do want them to feel like they’ve stumbled upon a serene guest room paradise that’ll have them bragging when they get home. I got the idea for this post after staying at a friend’s house, where I found numerous little touches in the guest bedroom that made it surprisingly sweet and thoughtful. A little vase on the bedside table next to an adorable carafe of water, and a plushy robe with matching towels? Yes, yes and yes. The effort showed she was happy to have me there, and that feeling of warm hospitality has stuck with me ever since.

Being a guest can be hard. You are never quite sure of the way a certain household operates. Shoes off at the door or do they not care? Are you okay to get your own glass of water by going into their cupboard and grabbing a glass or do you need to ask? There are things as hosts we can do to make guests feel immediately at ease. Here are a few of things that I try and do when guests come to stay:
- Fresh Linens – Make the bed with clean, cozy sheets and plenty of pillows.
- Extra Blankets – Keep an extra throw or blanket nearby in case they get chilly.
- Tidy & Stocked Bathroom – Fresh towels, extra toilet paper, and mini toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste) go a long way.
- Nightstand Essentials – Add a bedside lamp, tissues, water carafe, and a phone charging cable.
- Space for Their Things – Clear a drawer, closet space, or provide hooks for hanging clothes and bags.
- Snacks – Leave a small basket of snacks in their room for late-night cravings.
- Blackout Options – Curtains or a sleep mask for a good night’s rest.
- White Noise – Provide a fan or recommend an app if your house can be noisy.
- Temperature Control – Show them how to adjust the thermostat or give them an extra fan/heater.
- Local Guide – A list of nearby coffee shops, restaurants, or walking trails.
- Books & Magazines – A small stack of good reads or a local magazine.
- Scent & Ambiance – Light a candle or diffuse a subtle scent before they arrive.
This post is packed with ideas to make your guest bedroom a visitor’s paradise. The best part is that once you have these things, you’re all set and ready to go. The most you may need to do is wash the sheets and towels and pluck a few flowers from your garden for the pretty vase on the bedside table.
