    Weekend Wrap-Up: June 8

    By Abby • June 8, 2026

It is official. We have an elementary school graduate! Oh, how the time flies. Putting him on the bus for the first time when he was 6 years old feels like it just happened and now he is entering the 6th grade. There is a part of me that wishes I could get 5 minutes of time with him again in each grade, but I am also realistic and know that what we have is the moment, not the past and not the future. And right now, I should enjoy his 11-year-old self in all his goofy, slightly attitude-y, sweet, and funny ways over the next few summer months.

After the graduation, we went to get him an Apple Watch. I am not ready to get him a phone (at least not a smart phone) so a watch was a good compromise. We can still get ahold of him as he gains additional independence, but he also won’t be attached to a screen 24/7. Then it was off to the class pool party (sadly cut short by rain) and meeting his Grandpa for a celebratory dinner out. Needless to say, we all hit the pillow early given all the day’s excitement.

Saturday, I finished my gardening. I have 5 different kinds of tomato plants, bell peppers, jalapenos, and various herbs. We live in a fairly wooded area and cannot grow vegetables in a garden bed or they will be gobbled up by the deer and various other critters. Instead, I have everything planted in individual pots. We’ll see how it goes! I also created a garden bed full of zinnias and snap dragons which I hope will become a lucious and full garden for cutting flowers. We also dropped by our local library for the kick-off to the summer reading program. Our goal is to each read one book a week.

Sunday, my husband and son went with some friends to the NASCAR race which left me to peacefully clean, read and work a little on my site (I just posted about our family roadtrip along the coast of Maine and my favorite functional and comfortable but stylish sneakers for summer travel). A late trip to Costco got us prepped for meals this week as I plan on making chicken enchiladas (I prefer green enchilada sauce), hamburgers, spaghetti and meatballs and a crowd favorite, a grinder salad. I also dipped into Aldi and found the coolest little wood cutting board with built in trays to make it easy to put whatever you just chopped and set it off to the side. I cannot find it on Aldi’s site, but it’s similar to this.

I hope you are all enjoying the end of the school year and prepping for a fun summer! If you’re getting your beach bags pulled together you may find my post on the best beach essentials and my favorite waterproof beach bags helpful.

As always, here are the things I’ve been thinking about, reading, watching, cooking, planning, or adding to my cart!

I just finished reading The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett and it was fantastic! It’s a hefty book and took me a bit to get through it, but it’s wonderful story.

I was writing a post about what to wear to the farmer’s market, and I came across these sunglasses and immediately added them to my cart. I like light brown and tortoiseshell frames and at under $50 for polarized glasses, I figured I needed to try them out.

Now that I have my garden planted and our deck all set up with a small outdoor dining table, and comfy outdoor seating, I want to add these two Adirondack chairs to the mix.

Normally when I make hamburgers, I just mush together ground beef, salt it and throw it on the grill. I found this hamburger patty recipe which includes saltine crackers, Worcesteshire sauce, egg milk and garlic. I’m going to give it a try this week.

This oversized gingham linen shirt would look so cute with the cropped linen pants I just got or even thrown over a pair of cotton shorts.

If I were headed back to Maine this summer, I’d most definitely want to stay at this hotel. So pretty!

    Cheers to another great week!

    XO,

    Abby
