Weekend Wrap-Up: April 13

Finally! Some warm weather! I keep my seasonal clothes in two different closets as I’m sure many may do that live in four season states. While it’s warm (a high of 80 yesterday!!) I’m not sure I’m ready to switch my closet over to summer clothes. As soon as I do, we will get some weird ice storm and below freezing weather, so I’ll hold off for now.

Our weekend was a quiet one. I knew my son had a sub (or “guest teacher” as his school calls them) on Friday, so I sprang him from school a little early and went and saw an afternoon matinee of the new Super Mario Galaxy movie. LOVED it! It’s a must-see if you have kids (or even if you don’t have kids… I would have watched it on my own). I’ve been listening Project Hail Mary on Audible as that will be the next movie we go to see. I cannot recommend it enough. If there is ever a book to listen to through Audible or your free library apps, this is the one to start with. The narrator, Ray Porter, makes this story come to life with humor and sensitivity. I’m hoping the movie can live up to Ray’s performance of the book.

On Saturday we went to my dad’s to celebrate his one year anniversary of his move to a new home. It was a big deal for him to come and live closer to his grandchildren and, well… who doesn’t love a good excuse to get together, have some good food and drinks and watch The Masters. I made a Strawberry Ricotta crostini that was super easy and turned out to be a great springtime appetizer.

My son got a small 3D printer for Christmas and we brought it out on Sunday to start using it. What a fun little machine! You can easily get a ton of different filament colors off of Amazon. We made small bendy snakes and a fidget toy. I think I may have had more fun with it than he did. On my walk, I found one singular daffodil that made my entire day. I’ve been conciously trying to look for the small things that make life just a little bit sweeter and the daffodil was just that.

This week, outside of writing this blog, brings endless lacrosse practices, refinishing a nightstand (more to come on that process!), returning my Meta glasses for a different frame style and making my way through my next read – Buckeye by Patrick Ryan.

I got these jeans from the J.Crew outlet and they were only $59. Super comfy and flattering. Ofcourse I get new jeans as the weather skyrockets to 80 degrees in mid-April!

If you need a great spring appetizer to take somewhere, this Strawberry Ricotta Bruschetta was a crowd-pleaser.

If you want to read the most beautiful, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking novel, go get Wally Lamb’s The River Is Waiting It’s not a feel-good novel, but I just finished reading it and it’s one that will stay with me for a very long time. I find myself thinking about it more than I’ve thought about any book in recent memory.

I like wearing this bracelet to give my outfits a little pop of color. I got it in fuscia but considering getting another one in cobalt.

A good friend of mine just got back from a trip to Costa Rica and said it was absolutely amazing. My wanderlust kicked in and I started poking around at places to stay. I’m adding this resort to my bucket list.

The 3D printer we are using is a fun little toy. If you’re looking for a jumping-off point in this realm, I’d recommend this. It was just under $200 when we got it. Is it perfect? No. But for the most part, it’s created several little figurines and fidgets. If you want something smaller to try out, we also have the 3D printing pen which is a much smaller investment.

Looking for some cute spring sweaters? My latest blog post has the cutest options this season.

Have a great week, friends!

XO,

Abby
