Gift Ideas for the Book Lover

I have been looking forward to writing this post for a while now, and I’m so excited it was next up on my list to get out on The Betty Edit, the ultimate gift ideas for your favorite bookworm! If you’ve delved into my bio or some of my other posts, you’ve likely picked up on the fact that I’m a big reading nerd. It’s a hobby (yes, I consider reading a hobby) that I’m passionate about and every day I try to either turn on Audible or pick up a book to spend a few minutes, or hours, living in some other land, time, getting to know other families, couples, and groups of friends. If I can’t get out and travel in real life, then I’m just as happy traveling somewhere Stephen King, Anne Lammot, or Toni Morrison sends me.

I am not particular about where I read…the back of a car on a road trip, my favorite chair in our sunroom, my bed on lazy Sunday mornings (Once Halloween is over, I’m diving into my list of Holiday and Christmas books for the rest of the year!). But I AM particular about some of the things I like to have on-hand to make my reading sessions all the more comfortable. Must-have’s of mine? A neck light, a heated blanket in the colder months, my favorite tea, a good candle burning – I even have a special bath tray I use during my long soaks in the tub so I can easily set my book down without it getting wet. No, I don’t use everything at the same time. I grab whatever comfort item I need based on the whimsies of my mood that day. Not only that, I love to get get gifts that have to do with reading. I hope I’m the literary version of the crazy cat lady who wears cat sweatshirts and has “I love my Cat” bumperstickers, but do I care? Mehhh, no.

Here are some of my favorites gift ideas for all my fellow book lovers. Some are practical, some are things I love, some are on my wish list and some I just thought were cute, amusing items that would appeal to anyone in your life that loves to read!

Glocusent Book Light

I’m listing this first as it’s my #1 reading asset! I read a lot at night in bed and don’t want to disturb my husband by turning on a lamp. I also use it if I’m lounging in a room with low light and on airplanes. Heck, I even used it the other night when I was walking my dog after the sun set.

Personalized Book Embosser

A very thoughtful neighbor (and friend) gifted this to me last year and I have since given it to my mom and another friend. A personalized gift is always such a nice touch. And if your literati loans her books out, this is a perfect way for her to “leave her mark” so they know to whom the book should be returned!

Lap Beanbag Book Stand

This is like a little pillow stand for books! Just set it on your lap and you don’t have to hold on to those books (if you prefer hardcovers like I do, it’s a great gift).

Do Not Disturb, I’m Reading T-Shirt

This t-shirt is something I’m adding to my own list! I love it! A cranky little cat with her book? Might me in animal form.

Reading Journal

I use Goodreads to keep track of what I’ve read (and yes, I’ve started a book I’ve already read without realizing it until half way through!) but I like the idea of keeping the list in an actual journal and keeping it on my bookcase. I would have been thrilled to have a copy of what my Grandma read and seeing it in her own handwriting.

Reading Candle

For the reader with a sense of humor, this candle is quite cheeky. This would make a great stocking stuffer or a gift for your bookclub hostess!

A cup of hot tea is the perfect friend to any book and this gooseneck eletric kettle is oh-so-chic.

kate spade new york Canvas Tote Bag

I have this tote bag and use it all the time! It’s what I carry to and from the library, and almost always I get a compliment from a fellow library visitor.

Rifle Paper Co. Book Club Mug

This is highly rated on Anthropologie! When gifting this, it would be cute to fill it with a small bag of your favorite coffee or tea.

I cannot think of any book lover that wouldn’t smile at these adorable socks. Throw those feet up on an ottoman and let them speak for themself!

I consider myself lucky that I remember using these due date cards! There is part of me that misses them now that everything is digital but you can revisit the past with these vintage library due date coasters.

Bookworm Rainbow Socks

Another retro-vibe! These bookworm rainbow socks are too cute to pass up!

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB

I am a book-in-hand kind of gal. I like to physically hold the book, turn the pages, and use a bookmark. But, I will say, I like to use a Kindle when I’m traveling or places like the beach. Sometimes you just don’t have the room to lug around an actual book.

Book Slippers

Fluffy and plush, these slippers have an adorable book design perfect for any literary lover!

Ridley’s: 50 Must-Read Books Puzzle

I know a lot of my book-loving friends also like to puzzle! Once put together, they will have a list of 50 book recommendations.

Keep her love of reading close to her heart (literally!). This boho locket necklace features books written by some the best female authors.

FAQs

What are the best types of gifts for book lovers?

Book lovers often appreciate thoughtful items that enhance their reading experience, like cozy blankets, reading lights, book-themed candles, or personalized bookmarks. You can’t go wrong with something that makes curling up with a good book even better.

What’s a good gift for someone who already owns too many books?

Anything listed above, lol! If their shelves are overflowing, skip the books themselves and opt for something that celebrates their love of reading instead. Think along the lines of literary-inspired home decor, bookish apparel, or a subscription to an audiobook or e-reader service.

Are book subscriptions worth it?

Absolutely. Book subscription boxes like Book of the Month or Once Upon a Book Club make reading feel like an experience, not just a hobby. They’re perfect for anyone who loves discovering new authors and genres.

What’s a good luxury gift for a book lover?

I tried to keep a lot of what is featured in my recommendations to budget-friendly options. For a splurge-worthy option, consider a beautiful set of hardcover classics, a custom-built bookshelf, or even a designer reading lamp. These thoughtful upgrades can make their reading nook feel like a personal library.

How can I make a book-related gift feel more personal?

Pair the gift with a handwritten note about why you chose it or include a list of your own favorite reads. You could even assemble a themed basket, like “Rainy Day Reads”, with tea, snacks, and a soft throw blanket.
