Weekend Wrap-Up: February 2

Happy Groundhog Day, everyone! Darn that Punxatawny Phil! How dare he predict six more weeks of winter! Actually, my outrage is null and void as I truly love winter. (I get it – most of you disagree) But we’ve only been up north once to ski, and that’s not early enough! (Here in Michigan, that’s what we call the northern part of the state. Those of us “downstaters” regularly visit various parts of northern Michigan for its beauty and awesome outdoor activities, and it’s a regular vacation destination for many of us, hence just shortening it to Up North. We’ve only been sledding once and have yet to crack the ice for ice fishing. So, contrary to popular belief, I’m happy to have 6 – 8 more weeks of winter weather. It also means I’ve still got time for son to be in his last year of elementary school as the idea of him going on to middle school is making me yearn for those little kid days. Sigh… But that’s for another post.

I don’t have a lot I can share for my weekend wrap-up as I was down for the count with the Norovirus. And let me tell you, if you’ve never had that particular illness, it is no joke! I started feeling off late Saturday afternoon, and by Saturday evening, I had made my bed on the bathroom floor and didn’t return to the land of the living, meaning: outside the doors of the bathroom, until Sunday afternoon. Man – that is brutal. Tips if you get it? If you’re not camping out on your bathroom floor, keep a bowl or trash can nearby, as you never know when those stomach cramps will come and go. Do NOT eat a spicy vodka rigatoni before coming down with it as that is truly not a fun one to say hello to on its way back out. Take small sips of water here and there. A heating pad on my stomach seemed to help once most of the nausea was gone. And once the dust has settled, be sure and get a good probiotic, digestive enzymes, Vitamin B-12, and Omega-3. I am not a health expert, but all that I read and was told was that your gut needs to replenish with the good stuff after taking a Norovirus beating.

Outside of all of the health details you likely were not looking for, we had a chill weekend. Friday, we played Uno and watched the Michigan State v. Michigan basketball game. Saturday brought cleaning our house, bathrooms and all (which I will say I was thankful I did not knowing I’d be finding a home in one of them later that evening). Sunday was full of quiet, naps, playdates…and by Sunday evening I did a little R&R by the fire and worked on my sad little crocheted scarf while I forced my husband to watch the first episode of the new season of Bridgerton. Have a happy, HEALTHY week, everyone!
