Stylish Dresses to Wear to A Graduation

I will be attending my son’s 5th-grade graduation in a few weeks, and I’m already feeling all the feels. It seems like I just put him on the bus for the first time as a first-grader and here we are, saying goodbye to our cozy little elementary school community. I have been lucky to be super involved in his elementary experience by volunteering in the classroom and at school events, attending as many field trips as possible, and handling countless drop-offs and pick-ups. But it’s time. I think he’s ready for a new chapter. It’s sad to say goodbye, but I’m also looking forward to what new experiences and friendships middle school will bring.

Graduations are beautifully bittersweet. You are closing one chapter and opening another, all while trying to stay in the moment as much as possible. Whether you are watching your tiny kindergartener walk across a makeshift stage or cheering on your college grad as they step into the real world, you want to be present, comfortable, and looking chic. Finding the best stylish dresses to wear to a graduation can feel like a tall order when you factor in the unpredictable elements, but I promise it doesn’t have to be stressful. What to Consider Before Buying a Graduation Dress

Before we get to the fun part of adding things to our cart, we need to talk logistics. Because we all know that looking good is only half the battle and the other half is surviving the actual ceremony.

The Venue Dictates the Vibe

Are you going to be sitting on bleachers in a stuffy high school gym? You will absolutely want a lightweight, breathable fabric like cotton or linen. Are you heading to an outdoor stadium where the sun will be beating down on you for three hours? A sleeveless midi dress and a wide-brimmed hat will be your best friends. Always check the venue and the weather app before you commit to an outfit. And it never hurts to have a lightweight cardigant on-hand and a small umbrella.

Comfort is Key

Graduation ceremonies are notoriously long. You might be sitting for hours, standing to clap, and walking across sprawling campuses. A restrictive dress that you have to constantly tug at is going to ruin your mood. Opt for flowy silhouettes, wrap dresses, or A-line cuts that let you breathe (and let you enjoy that celebratory brunch afterward). Think about pairing it with a gorgeous pair of platform sandals or a pair it with of some of my favorite designer sandal dupes that you can find on Amazon!

I have scoured the internet to find dresses that hit that sweet spot of quiet luxury, affordability (for the most part… there are a few splurge worthy dresses listed below), and practical comfort. Any of us over 40 knows that comfort is just as important as style. Below you will find are a few of my personal favorite stylish dresses to wear to a graduation this season!
