Weekend Wrap-Up: Memorial Day Weekend
If productivity is at an all-time high on any certain weekend, it’s usually Memorial Day weekend for me. It’s always the weekend when unpredictable weather can either have me pulling weeds and planting flowers to manically emptying my linen closet, getting rid of anything old/outdated/never used and organizing it even though I know by September it will be a hot mess again.
I did all of those things this past weekend given the weather went from rainy and 50 to hot and 82. We walked up to our favorite local diner for breakfast friday morning to take advantage of the rain that was coming for the next couple of days. I also switched my closet over from my winter to summer clothes, donated more than 6 bags of clothes and shoes I have been holding onto since before the pandemic and deep cleaned my office. We spent time with some dear friends, ate some delicious bbq, sanded and stained our simple little outdoor dining set and binged The Bouroughs. My son got a magnet fishing kit and was excited to try and see what he could come up with at his grandparent’s lake. So far he’s only “caught” a rusty nail but I. have a feeling he will be using that a lot this summer.

Luckily by Monday, the weather dried up and we were treated to a beautiful day at the lake. I was more excited to use my new woven beach bag than I was about the actual sunny weather. 😉
We are headed into the last couple of weeks of elementary school so there is definately a bittersweet vibe in our home at the moment. A little bit of wistfulness of all the past 5 years have brought us in our cushy comfy little school, some nerves about entering middle school next call and a general sense of excitement for all the fun summer brings.
Speaking of a fun summer, I’ve been working on my summer bucket list. A few years ago, mid-August was knocking on our door and we hadn’t done half of things we talked about doing back in June. Ever since, I’ve made our family a bucket list of things we want to see, do and experience every summer… everything from golfing at a new golf course to trying a new ice cream flavor to painting rocks around and placing them all around town. Each summer our list shifts a bit as our son is that much older. But making a bucket list and sticking to it is a good way to make sure you’re not losing hours (and days) staring at small little screens and it’s a great thing to reference for ideas when you inevitably hear the “I’m bored! There is nothing to do!” complaints by week two of summer break. I posted some of my favorite our bucket list ideas a while back (linked here) so feel free to use that as a starting point to create your own!
This week will be full of the last of lacrosse practices and our last few games, field day, end of season team celebration, and coming up with gifts to thank our son’s 5th grade teacher and some of the other teachers that have made his time in elementary extra special. If you’re also needing end-of-year teacher gift ideas, my recent post on some of my favorite things to give our teachers is linked here.
As always, here are the things I’ve been thinking about, reading, watching, cooking, planning, or adding to my cart!
I got this beach bag made by Lily Pulitzer and I adore it! I almost always wear hats to the pool or beach and I love the fact that you can slide your hat into the front straps. I also just published an article on the best waterproof beach bags which is a great little guide to some really adorable and functional bags for the summer. Or if you’re looking for bargain waterproof beach bags, I also found some really good alternatives to Bogg Bags (linked here).
As I mentioned above, we binged The Boroughs over the long weekend. I cannot speak highly enough of it! It’s like a grandparent version of Stranger Things. I am not usually a fan of sci-fi, but this show is fantastic! Fun, funny, sweet and entertaining. 5-stars from everyone in our household!
I am currently reading two books that are pretty darn good. I’m listening to The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. I loved The Help many years ago and was thrilled to see she published something new. It’s wonderful so far but it’s a long one! This audiobook is a little over 28 hours. I’m also reading Salt Water by Katy Hays. I just started it yesterday but I think this one is going to be a good thriller! With May ending, be on the lookout for my post about all the books I’m adding to my summer reading list! I plan to publish it in the next week or so.
I just ordered these pants and this shirt to wear to my son’s graduation. I will likely pair them with this pair of sandals that I just got last week and they are super chic and beyond comfortable. I also wrote an article about some of my favorite Amazon sandals that look designer but are way more affordable that you may be interested in.
I officially broke out my Charcoolerie for the first time this weekend. It’s a super fun way to keep snacks nice and cold if you’re going to a summer party.
This necklace will add a pretty pop of color to any outfit.
This is quite random, but this electric can opener is one of my favorite things in my kitchen (along with anything by Great Jones!)
I walk anywhere from two to five miles a day (it greatly helps my sanity). I live and die by the Brooks Adrenaline GTS shoes. So comfortable and supportive.
Have a wonderful week, friends!
XO,
Abby
