Clean Beauty Products for a Happier Healthier You!
Let’s talk about clean beauty. It’s one of those buzzwords you’ve probably seen popping up everywhere—on Tik Tok, in your favorite magazine, or even at Sephora. But what does it actually mean, and why should you care? Spoiler alert: it’s not just a trend. Clean beauty is a movement, and it’s one that can seriously transform your wellness routine (and your skin!).
If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent years slathering on products without giving much thought to what’s actually in them. I mean, if it smells good and makes your skin glow, that’s all that matters, right? Well, not exactly. Turns out, many of the products we’ve been using are packed with preservatives, synthetic fragrances, and other additives that can do more harm than good—both for our bodies and the planet.
That’s where clean beauty comes in.

What Makes a Product “Clean”?
Clean beauty is all about transparency. It means products are made without harmful ingredients like parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. Instead, they’re formulated with safer, non-toxic alternatives that are better for your skin and overall health.
But here’s the thing: the term “clean” isn’t regulated, so it’s up to us, as consumers, to do a little digging. Look for brands that are upfront about their ingredients and avoid the “dirty dozen”. Trust me, once you start reading labels, you’ll be shocked at what you’ve been putting on your face—and your body. I don’t think we can assume clean beauty products are always 100% “clean”. But the further you can get into avoiding products with any toxins what-so-ever, is a step in the right direction.
Why Clean Beauty Matters
Switching to clean beauty isn’t just about avoiding toxins (though that’s a big part of it). It’s about making choices that align with your values. Clean beauty products are often cruelty-free, sustainably sourced, and packaged in eco-friendly materials. So, not only are you doing something good for yourself, but you’re also doing something good for the planet. Win-win!
Without all the harsh chemicals, your skin can finally breathe and thrive. Plus, clean beauty brands often use high-quality, nutrient-rich ingredients like plant oils, antioxidants, and botanicals that actually nourish your skin.
My switch to clean beauty was gradual. I would suggest you don’t purge your entire beauty drawer in an effort to immediately replace it with clean products. Start slow and replace as you need a new product. I started with my mascara. Once my go-to ran out, I replaced with it with Ilia’s Limitless Lash Mascara (Ilia is one of my favorite clean brands – more on that below). From there, I swapped my tinted moisturizer and went on down the line as I needed something new. It took me about a year in total to completely switch over to clean beauty brands. So don’t feel like you need to rush and switch over. Be kind to yourself, and your pocketbook, and go product-by-product as needed.

My Favorite Clean Beauty Products
As mentioned above, my number one in make-up products is Ilia. But I use several others and all are amazing for different reasons. Here are a few of my absolute favorite clean beauty products that I swear by:

Ilia Limitless Mascara
My personal favorite – this is does a beautiful job of lifting the lashes and doesn’t seem to clump or dry and flake off. The best part is the packaging is even “planet-friendly”.

Making the Shift
There are so many products out there, and it’s hard to know where to start. To reiterate what I said above, take it one step at a time. Start by replacing the products you use most often, like your moisturizer or foundation, and go from there.
And don’t stress about being perfect. Clean beauty is about progress, not perfection. Even small changes can make a big difference in the long run.
