Garden Girl Aesthetic: A Gorgeous Summer Trend

I was recently perusing a magazine and saw the sweetest dresses and skirts with floral prints. They were so girly and lovely, and I found myself instantly charmed. I know that Reformation is an extremely popular brand that features all of the pretty florals of summer (see my post about the best Reformation dupes). However, I wanted to explore what else was available beyond the realm of cute dresses. There are so many lovely garden-inspired clothing, accessories, and home goods. While the preppy and coastal looks are always fun for summer, there’s still plenty of summer left to explore the garden vibes.

The garden girl aesthetic is romantic, unfussy, and rooted in nature. It’s cottagecore’s more floral-forward cousin, with an emphasis on effortless femininity, vintage charm, and pieces that feel plucked from an English countryside daydream. Think Emma by way of Anthropologie (and I do love Anthropologie lately). When I realized “garden girl” is actually a thing, I poked around a bit to see what all constitutes this pretty trend. These are some of the moods it invokes:

  • Prairie dresses and picnic baskets
  • Dewy skin and barely-there makeup
  • Vintage botanical prints and enamel watering cans
  • Outdoor brunch and pressed flowers

Garden girl fabrics should be light and airy, soft as those pretty petals in your summer garden. Full of gingham, florals, and floppy straw hats – you most definitely can pull off this romantic nature-inspired look.

Here are a few things that I think are lovely additions for aspiring garden girl style mavens like you,.

The Garden Girl aesthetic is more than a trend; it’s a gentle reminder to romanticize your life. To slow down. To notice the scent of honeysuckle on the breeze or the way the morning sun hits your backyard. It’s fashion and lifestyle as self-care. And if you happen to grow a tomato or two along the way? Even better. Visit The Betty Edit homepage for more style recommendations!
