Slim, Sleek & Colorful Sneakers
I try, so hard, to keep up with sneaker trends and it seemingly changes so often. Why can’t one type of sneakers stay in style for a decade or more? Well, I suppose there are the mainstays like Converse, Vans, Nikes… you can’t look out of style wearing those classics. But one minute it’s the ridiculously expensive beat-up beat-up-looking Golden Goose sneakers, only to have them fade out a couple of years later. Chunky white sneakers? All the rage for a few years and now I’m being told I need to tuck those away in the back of my closet to make room for slim colorful sneakers. This change in trend I’m down with as I always felt like Frankenstein walking around in those chunky white sneaks.

Everywhere I look in the media, it seems fashion editors and stylists alike are wholeheartedly embracing slim runners, especially in suede, earth tones, or streamlined track styles. The sleek, low-profile silhouettes are also bursting with color and retro appeal. If your fall wardrobe leans neutral (beige coats, cream knits, camel trousers), these sneakers are the pop of personality you need. Bright reds are having a serious moment, but jewel tones, animal print, and even metallics are proving just as chic.
Slim Sneakers: The Perfect Fall Shoe
In my humble opinion, there are a few reasons why this type of shoe is trending right now:
- The streamlined shape makes fall layering look intentional instead of bulky
- Bold colors instantly brighten a neutral outfit
- The retro vibes feel familiar to our past but in a really fresh way
- The lightweight design means you can be stylish without sacrificing comfort
This fall’s sneakers prove you don’t need a chunky sole to make a statement. Slim, colorful, and undeniably cool, these are the shoes I’m reaching for as I swap out my Birkenstocks and sandals for sneaker vibes this season. (In fact, my brown Adidas Spezial’s just arrived today and I’m not sure I can wait until after Labor Day to bust them out!)

Adidas Handball Spezial
My most recent order (as mentioned above), the Adidas Spezials are so cool. I love the brown for this fall, but they have some really cool colors like maroon and fuchsia.
Puma Women’s Speedcat OG
I had a version of these in the early 2000’s and it makes my heart happy to see them back and better than ever. I love the red for this season.
Sam Edelman Isabel Sneaker
These are super comfortable and fun with the metallic. I love Sam Edelman shoes and these fit the bill for sleek fall sneakers.

Super low-profile with the ultra thin sole, I would pair these with track pants or a midi skirt. Again – love that brown!

These Sam Edelman sneakers have adorable adjustable straps making it super easy-on easy-off.

Holy cow, these are so stinking cool. These Veja Volley O.T. Sneakers are the epitome of chic girl awesomeness. A cross between the look of a loafer and the ultimate slim sneaker.
Adidas Taekwando Sneaker
There is something about the Adidas Taekwando sneakers that remind me of the simple elegance of ballet slippers. This blue is such a fun color but it comes in a myriad of choices from neutrals to metallics.
Nike LD-1000 Sneakers
Big fans of Nike in our house, and these Nike LD-1000 do not disappoint! They are a throwback to a pair from 1977 with a super cool waffle bottom.
Reebok Classic AZ Sneakers
That cool red again! The Reebok Classic AZ sneakers are the perfect fall sneaker inspired by the retro 70’s Aztec running shoes. This one is next up on my wish list and it’s not a bad price point, either.
Veja Rio Branco Sneaker
Run, don’t walk for these Veja Rio Branco sneakers. They are SUPER popular right now.
Puma Speedcat Ballet Shoes
So sweet but also bada*s, the Puma Speedcat Ballet shoes are racing-inspired sneakers are a unique alternative to the classic sneaker.

Another great earth tone option (but it does come in other colors) – these are based on 80’s designs and have a super cool retro vibe.
Dolce Vita Serena Sneaker
I’ve been looking for a navy blue sneaker and this one is perfection!
Adidas Tokyo Low Top Sneaker
A reinvented version of a 1960’s classic – you can’t go wrong with the Adidas Tokyo Low Top Sneaker. This one is timeless!
