Weekend Wrap-Up: February 23
We had a pretty chill and restful weekend that seemingly went back incredibly too quickly. How is it already the end of February??? This year has felt so incredibly long yet we are already heading into spring next month. It reminds me of a podcast that I listened to when my son was a baby that talked about how days feel so long and never ending yet the years feel so short and fly by. It’s an interesting juxtaposition.
Friday I hosted our second to last Battle of the Books meeting. The boys are excited for their mock battle practice at school this week. I have my fingers crossed that in between all of the horse play during the meetings, they actually retained just a tiny bit of the 7 books they had to read and all of our practice questions to help prep them.
Saturday brought an early morning as we attended our nephew’s bowling regional finals. It’s hard for a 10 year old to sit quietly at a bowling alley so I spent a lot of my time with him in the bowling alley arcade. $40 later in tokens, he walked away with a very lovely light-up plastic cup. We spent the afternoon running errands and eating our way through Costco. By the way, if you’re into salmon or you have kids that are willing to try, my son tried the Trident Salmon burgers (shown below) at one of the sample stations and absolutely loved it! They are an easy thing to take out, throw into the air fryer and use them for everything from burgers to chopped up on a salad.
Saturday night, I continued to put the final touches on my son’s bedroom move. Just when I think I’m done throwing things away or putting the last pair of too-small shorts into the donation bag, I find something more. I will say, it feels really good to purge things that have been taking up useless space all this time. I plan to do a whole spring clean-out and will document that process when the time comes. I’ve been reading some good books on organization and decluttering that are helping me get into the right mindset. We also started binge-watching Love is Blind. It’s a huge guilty pleasure of ours but don’t get me started on the obnoxiousness of Chris. GAH!
Sunday morning was our weekly run to the lacrosse clinic. I started a new book Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a cup of tea and reading in silence – the best! I made a super easy sausage pasta and salad for dinner and here we are on Monday already! It was a quiet one, but sometimes those are the kinds of weekends we need to rest and renew. Not everything needs to be overwhelming and jam packed to say we had fun.
A few links and snippets I’m happy to share with you:
I started two books this weekend: I’m listening to the Audible version of Heart the Lover and reading the hardcover of The View from Lake Como.
I just winged it when making the sausage pasta on Sunday, but this is a recipe for creamy sausage pasta I often use that’s really good as well.
I first discovered Harney & Sons tea on a trip to London many years ago and I really love it. Goes so well with a bit of honey and lemon.
I’ve been listening to a really great podcast lately, The Telepathy Tapes. Give it a whirl if you’ve got the time; it’s pretty fascinating.
I have been living in these jeans lately. They are super soft, comfortable and surprisingly flattering. I have short legs so I like the crop version.
Have a fantastic week and for all of you on the east coast, I hope you stay warm and have fun in the snow!
