Fall Beauty Products I’m Currently Loving
I must admit I’m not a beauty expert of any kind. I don’t wear a ton of make-up and often go make-up free if I know I’m not going to be largely out and about. However… I do love a good beauty product. Especially if it’s just a few products that can instantly transform my look or work for the season. In the summer I tent to wear brighter lipsticks and pinker blushes, whereas in the fall I lean more towards muted colors like mauves and browns.

This year, the whole beauty world seems to be on the same page, which rarely happens. Everything’s richer and a little softer at the edges. Less “perfect,” more like you got ready in good lighting and then lived your life in it. Here’s what I’m loving this season. I’m not including eyeshadow or liner as I don’t wear them, so it feels disingenuous to include products I don’t really use.

Lips
Berry is back, the wine-and-plum-and-raspberry family, but the thing I keep noticing is that texture matters more than the shade this year. Sheer and blurred, not a hard matte line. Brown is right there too, and I’m a little obsessed with the idea of a brown lip that doesn’t look like 1996. (Okay, it kind of looks like 1996. That’s the fun part.) I distinctly remember my friends and I wearing a very rich wine-colored lipstick and I’m sort-of loving that it’s back. My three picks?
Blush
It seems this fall, blush is trying not be blush. Confused? Simply put, it’s getting richer for fall, deeper and warmer, but the application is the opposite of bold. Blurred, diffused, a little hard to find. People are calling it “anti-blush,” which made me laugh, because it’s blush that wants to look like you just came in from the cold. These are my three favorite picks for a pretty subtle autumn blush. I personally prefer a cream blush but I know a lot of people are partial to powder so I’ve included both.
Velvety, Dewy Skin
Dewy but not wet. Velvety. Whatever you want to call it, the base this fall is lighter than the colors on top of it, and I’m here for that. Letting a little real skin show makes the richer shades look current instead of dressed up. I’ve never been a fan of thick foundations (especially as my skin ages) so I’m liking that this fall it seems tinted moisturizers and very subtle base tints are where things are trending.
Take Care Of That Pretty Face
If there’s one thing to swap out when fall arrives, it’s your lightweight summer moisturizer. Look for a cream with ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin to help lock in moisture and keep skin feeling soft. This is especially helpful for mature skin, which naturally tends to become drier over time. A gentle chemical exfoliant can help remove dead skin cells and leave your complexion looking smoother and brighter. The key is not to overdo it, especially when your skin is already adjusting to drier weather. And the third piece of the puzzle? An overnight mask or deeply hydrating treatment can help replenish moisture and leave skin feeling softer by morning. Look for formulas that focus on hydration rather than harsh active ingredients.
Overall, here is what I’m seeing trending this fall for beauty products:
- Berry and brown lips: Wine, plum and raspberry are back, and brown is having a moment. Texture matters more than shade this year: sheer and blurred, not hard matte.
- “Anti-blush”: Blush is richer and warmer but applied soft and diffused, so it’s hard to pinpoint.
- Velvety, dewy skin: Lighter bases with a little real skin showing, so the deeper colors don’t look overdone.
- Richer skincare: Thicker creams, barrier-focused and milky formulas, and peptides everywhere.
I hope you find the right look for YOU this autumn. Remember that it’s also not always about the trends. It’s what works for you. Keep your same products and just try them in the berry and brown shades if it feels too overwhelming to start from scratch.
