The Best Gifts for Homebodies Who’d Rather Be Cozy at Home

I am a loud and proud homebody. In in that weird, what I’ve heard referred to as The Goonies Generation, who isn’t quite Gen X and not quite Millennal. We were that chunk of time where we got to have a childhood completely tech-free, but also got our first email addresses in high school and when some of us went off to college. And we did some THINGS. Told our parents we were staying at Rachel’s house when really we were out in a field drinking Boone’s farm, we were at Troy’s house party because his parents were in Mexico, we were sneaking out of windows and all the while, our parents believe we were all at “Rachel’s House” I’ve been to raves in seedy abandoned buildings in downtown Detroit (Dear God I hope my mom isn’t reading this) until the wee hours of the morning. I’ve been sweaty in clubs in the early 2000s, closed down bars REPEATEDLY for nights (and years) on end and now? I’m done. I am happy I had a raucous, fun-filled, late-evening life in my 20s and early 30s but I’ve officially hung up that towel.

I am a 100% certified homebody. If I do go out, it cannot be on a Friday as Fridays are for decompressing for the week. If I go out on a Saturay? It needs to be with my close group of friends or family and then I need a day or two of staying home to charge my social batteries. Small talk with someone I don’t know at dinner parties? Yuck. Loud concerts? Fine, but I usually leave well before the last song is played. I. Am. A. Homebody. Give me all my creature comforts, a good book, a nice candle, a slow simmering pot of soup on the stove, my little crafts I do when watching the latest streaming show. I like my pets and family close, I like to putter in the garden, journal, and burn up my latest attempt at whatever new break I’m trying to make.

Gift Ideas for the Homebody

I started putting together this gift guide for all you like-minded souls (or people who know and love homebodies), and I thought less about generic “cozy gifts” and more about the things that actually make being at home feel better.

I looked for gifts that feel a little special but are still useful: really good blankets, pretty things for the kitchen, books and games, comfortable pajamas, candles, small upgrades for movie night and those little luxuries you might not necessarily buy for yourself. I’ve also tried to include a good mix of price points because a great homebody gift doesn’t have to be expensive.

Gifts For Homebodies Under $30

If you want to keep it budget-friendly (as I think we all do right now in this economy), I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites that are under $30. These can also be good ideas if you’re attending a Favorite Things Party. Everyone likes little luxuries to make their home life that much more cozy.

What Makes a Good Gift for a Homebody?

I think the best homebody gifts fall into one of two categories: something that makes everyday life at home more comfortable, or something that makes an ordinary night at home feel a little more special. Think a better blanket, a beautiful mug, really good pajamas, a new book, a game they’ll actually play or something indulgent for the bath.

And unless you know someone’s taste really well, I’d stay away from anything too decorative. A candle, throw or pretty serving piece is one thing. A giant piece of wall art they now have to figure out where to hang? That’s less of a gift and more of an assignment.
