Weekend Wrap-Up: It’s Finally April!

I’m a little delayed in my weekend wrap-up as we just got back from a trip to Colonial Williamsburg for spring break and the weekend was full of Easter celebrations. Speaking of Easter, the amount of candy and chocolate in our house is next level. My son has a huge sweet tooth but I think I could build a candy mountain with the amount of jellybeans, chocolate bunnies and sugary sweet Peeps.

I will post about our trip to Williamsburg, Va in detail, but if you have any young budding history buffs, this is a place not to be missed! My son just finished a social studies unit about the Revolutionary War so the timing couldn’t have been better. He got to see the actual field in Yorktown where the war “officially” ended. For anyone, let alone a kid who just learned about American history in school, seeing these historical landmarks is incredibly inspiring and compelling.

I also bought myself a very fun toy ahead of the trip – Ray Ban Meta glasses. I wanted to be able to capture photos and video without having to always be grabbing for my phone all of the time. I cannot speak highly enough about them! I plan on writing a full post to talk about the pros and cons (and there aren’t too many cons!) but I can fully say they were worth every penny. It kept my hands free and I especially like the fact it’s a bit more subtle when taking pictures and videos than whipping out a phone and pointing it at something. The best part? I listen to a ton of Audible and audiobooks from Libby and Hoopla and the glasses are equipped with sound so I can wear those instead of earbuds. I will say, I was super torn about getting the transition lenses vs. straight sunglasses. I’m not a huge fan of transitions; however, I like the fact that if I’m wearing them indoors, I can keep them on when they transition back to clear lenses.

I spent Friday doing our vacation laundry and airing out our house after it had been closed up for a week. Saturday, we had planned to go to my mom’s for an Easter Egg hunt but we got a crazy amount of rain, so we took a (literal) raincheck and rescheduled for Sunday. Sunday brought an Easter brunch at my mother in law’s and the egg hunt and delicious spring dinner following. Lots of excitement Sunday evening as it was back-to-school after the break and the official start of the lacrosse season. I am SO ready for spring! Bring. It. On.

Things I Made

I made this balsamic pea salad for our Easter egg hunt celebration. It’s super easy to throw together and I always get a ton of compliments when I make it. I put the toasted almonds on the side if I know that someone has a nut allergy.

I didn’t make it, but my mother-in-law always makes cheesy potatoes. They definitely aren’t calorie-concious but they are such a great comfort food. It hit the spot on a rainy spring morning.

Things I Read and Watched

I am hosting our next bookclub and picked The River is Waiting by Wally Lamb as our April read. WOW. I cannot say enough of this gut-wrenching beautiful novel. I think this is one that will stick with me for a long time to come. I highly recommend it.

We started watching Rooster with Steve Carrell and I’m really enjoying it. Part of me wishes I had become a college professor.

I’m late to the game with this one, but after our trip to Williamsburg, I ended up buying the book 1776 by David McCullough. It’s been out for a while, but I’m looking forward to learning more about what we saw and did.

Things I Bought or Admired

As I mentioned, the Ray Ban Meta glasses are a game changer! You won’t be disappointed. I went with the Gen 2 as I read it has a longer battery life. I did get the shiny frames and am thinking about taking them back to get the matte black.

With the spring sport season upon us (IYKYK), I got these portable rocking chairs and this pair of rain boots. We’ve gotten a TON of rain lately and those fields can get unbelievably muddy in the spring.

This knotty custom charm bracelet is currently 20% off this week. I got it in blue to wear to my son’s games. I’m not really a matchy matchy coordinated sideline parent, so a simple nod to his team’s colors is about all I will do.
