Blue Is the Color of Summer: The Prettiest Finds To Wear Now

There is something about blue that I come back to every summer.

While I love experimenting with seasonal trends and fresh color palettes (lately I’ve been into gingham which you can read more about here), blue is one shade that never feels overly trendy or difficult to wear. It’s classic, effortless, and somehow always manages to look polished while still feeling relaxed. Whether it’s a breezy linen dress, a striped sweater tossed over my shoulders on a cool evening, or a pair of denim shorts paired with a crisp white button-down, blue has a way of making me feel both comfortable and put together.

I find myself reaching for blue all summer long. It’s the color I wear on family vacations, beach weekends, dinners by the water, trips to the farmer’s market, and even casual days spent running errands. It feels equally at home in New England coastal towns, lakeside getaways, and backyard gatherings with friends. My favorite lately? I’ve been wearing a blue and white striped button-down on repeat almost every week so far. I must wear it so much that my husband accidentally bought me a similar shirt for my birthday last week. When I asked why he would get me something I already had he said that he just pictured me wearing it, lol. Oh, men… to know them is to love them.

Part of blue’s appeal is its connection to summer itself. It reminds me, personally, of clear skies, the lapping water when I sit lakeside at my parent’s house, the sailboats I look forward to seeing during our Northern Michigan summer vacation, hydrangeas in bloom, and that classic Americana summer style (which seems to be exploding this summer given our country’s 250th anniversary!!). From nautical-inspired stripes to soft linen and vibrant cobalt accents, blue has become synonymous with the relaxed, coastal aesthetic that feels especially relevant this time of year. I love it so much, I even published a post about the best spring looks in blue! Clearly, blue is near and dear to my heart (and style aesthetic).

If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe this season, these blue summer finds make it easy to embrace one of the most timeless and wearable color trends of the year.

My Favorite Blue Looks for Summer

Blue Floral Dresses & Easy Summer One-Piece Outfits

Nothing feels more like summer than a beautiful blue dress. Whether you’re heading to brunch, a beach vacation, a summer wedding shower, or simply want an outfit that requires very little effort, a blue dress is one of the easiest ways to look polished. I especially love styles with floral prints, eyelet details, embroidery, and breezy silhouettes that feel feminine without being overly fussy. The pieces below all capture that effortless coastal-inspired style that feels perfectly suited for warm-weather adventures.

The Coastal Blue Trend

If there is one summer aesthetic that never goes out of style, it’s coastal-inspired fashion. Blue naturally evokes ocean waves, sailboats, seaside towns, and relaxed vacations along the water. The beauty of coastal style is that it manages to feel timeless rather than trendy.

Pieces featuring stripes, woven textures, nautical details, and crisp blue-and-white color combinations instantly create that East Coast summer vibe. The striped woven shoulder bag, striped sweater, shell necklace, baseball cap, blue crossbody and blue raffia accessories all fit beautifully into this aesthetic. Pair them with white denim, linen trousers, or a simple sundress for an outfit that feels classic and effortless.

Blue Linen, Eyelet & Feminine Pieces for Hot Summer Days

When temperatures climb, linen becomes my fabric of choice. It’s breathable, lightweight, and somehow always looks sophisticated even when slightly r umpled. Blue linen pieces are especially versatile because they feel relaxed while still looking elevated. Everything from the shell linen top, linen shorts, wide-leg linen pants to feminine eyelet tops can be mixed and matched throughout the season. These are the types of pieces you’ll reach for repeatedly because they work equally well for vacations, weekend outings, casual lunches, and everyday errands.

Casual Blue Looks for Everyday Summer Style

Not every summer outfit needs to feel dressed up. Some of my favorite blue pieces are the ones I throw on for everyday life. Graphic tees, relaxed denim shorts, comfortable sneakers, easy knit tops, and lightweight sweaters are the foundation of a practical summer wardrobe. Graphic Tees, New Balance sneakers, denim shorts, boyfriend jeans, and simple knit tops and sets all offer easy ways to incorporate blue into your wardrobe without feeling overly styled. They’re comfortable, approachable, and perfect for real life.

Why Blue Works So Well in Summer

Blue has a unique ability to feel both classic and fresh at the same time. It reflects so much of what we love about summer: blue skies, lake days, ocean views, hydrangea blooms, and carefree afternoons spent outdoors. It’s flattering on virtually everyone, easy to style, and versatile enough to work for everything from vacations to everyday errands.

While other color trends come and go, blue remains one of the most timeless choices you can make. Whether you prefer soft powder blues, classic chambray, nautical navy, or bold cobalt, these shades instantly create a polished summer wardrobe that you’ll reach for year after year.
