Life, Lately: 10/16/26
FINALLY! The cool fall weather is here! We started out the week with record highs of 85 degrees here in Michigan but I’m so happy to say by mid-week, we are into the weather I’ve been waiting for! That cool crisp sweater weather. When the air smells like fallen leaves and dewy mornings. Skies are overcast in the moodiest way and I bought a big ol’ bag of candy corn that I can’t wait to mix with some dry roasted peanuts. Fall. Is. Here.

This week was a busy one with doctor appointments, lacrosse and tennis runs, school conferences, visits to cider mills and watching some of our favorite shows premiere with new seaons. With our outdoor halloween decor completed, all that’s left to do is get a few pumpkins. I finally switched mh closet from summer to winter clothes (if you’re in a 4 season location, you know the drill) and bought a new teddy coat that I’m super excited to bring out in the next few months.

This weekend we are headed to the final farmers market of the season, catching at least the first bit of the Michigan State game, going on a ghost walk in our small town where people who lives in houses built in the 1800s talk about their experiences with paranormal acitivity (SO excited for this!), picking out our pumpkins to put on the porch, and I plan to chill with a good book for, what I hope is, an entire afternoon.
Just a few things that hit my radar this week….
A grim reaper that sits on your favorite bookshelf? Yes, please! Especially as it’s currently 50% off.
I’m planning a trip for a certain someone’s big birthday in November and we’re headed to New Orleans. I’m trying to decide between these three hotels: The Monteleone, The Blackbird Hotel, and The Eliza Jane. I’m sort-of leaning toward the Eliza Jane given it was named after the first woman in the country to publish a newspaper (and did so from that same building). How cool is THAT? More to come on our trip to New Orleans. I plan to write an entire post about what I packed, what we planned and did and most importantly, where we ate. Bring on the Creole food!
I have had these black leather booties on my mind for a couple of years. It’s more than I would normally spend on boots (that I’m not wearing on the daily) but I think I might just have to pull the trigger. But now I’m like , do I actually want them in the pomegranate? Especially since the witches in the 1600s were known to wear red leather boots… 😉
I subscribe to Vanity Fair as I think they have some really stellar writers. I just finished an article on AI that I cannot wrap my head around in terms of the good vs. evil around its VERY quick evolution. But on a lighter note, they have a great list of the best 13 horror movies to stream in October.
I liked this quick read about the history of witchcraft.
I want these oxblood leather sneakers in the worst way. And, man, if this brand isn’t super comfy, then I don’t know what is!! I highly recommend any of their sneakers if you’re going on a trip with lots of walking and don’t want your American status to stand out like a sore thumb.
I made these butter chicken meatballs this week and was told to keep this recipe on FULL rotation this winter.
How cute is this plaid tote? Might just need to be my workbag for the fall and winter.
There is really nothing like a cozy cardigan once the weather starts to turn. I’m loving this one.
And last, but not least, I have an unhealthy obsession with these puzzle stacking rings. I want the opal, aquamarine, and citrine. Gorgeous.
The last of my zinnias. Aren’t they pretty??

And I have to recommend two new outdoor Halloween decorations that I’m actually loving. The witch’s hats which you can hang from a ceiling inside or in trees and the window gouls. (Which I got majorly on sale from Grandin Road).
Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. And if any of you have tips about travel to New Orleans, please send them my way!!
