The Dining Table Edit: Pottery Barn Style for Less

I’ve always loved the look of Pottery Barn dining tables. The beautiful wood finishes, classic silhouettes, and slightly rustic details make them feel like pieces you could have in your home for years without worrying about them going out of style. They are great for more casual spaces (a friend has a beautiful one in her kitchen) but they can also work in a bit more of a formal dining room. That’s what’s so great about Pottery Barn dining tables is that they are so versatile. What I don’t always love? The price tags. Yeesh! I get that dining tables can often be a great investment so I totally get it if you want to spend the money to get a Pottery Barn (or another big brand) table. But if you’re trying to. be mindful of a budget, which feels like we all seem to be lately in this ecomomy, there are some really great dining tables that share similar styles to Pottery Barn and won’t break the bank.

Whether you’re furnishing a formal dining room or looking for something that can handle everyday dinners, homework, and the occasional holiday gathering, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Pottery Barn-inspired dining tables that deliver a similar look for less. I’m always hesitant to use the word dupe. None of these are a 1:1 for what you’d get at Pottery Barn, nor should they! Pottery Barn is… well Pottery Barn. But I do like the fact that a lot of these table alternatives clearly took their design inspiration cues from PB.

What to Look for in a Pottery Barn Dining Table Dupe

Not all dining table lookalikes are created equal, and while finding a similar design is a good starting point, there are a few other things worth paying attention to before making a purchase.

Wood Finish and Texture

One of the things Pottery Barn does particularly well is creating furniture with beautiful, natural-looking finishes. Look for warm oak tones, weathered wood, rich walnut finishes, or subtle distressing that gives a table a little character. I’d pay particular attention to the wood grain and finish, since these details can make an affordable table look much more expensive than it actually is.

Shape and Silhouette

Sometimes it’s the shape of a table that makes it feel distinctly Pottery Barn. Think chunky pedestal bases, turned legs, trestle supports, and substantial tabletops. If you’ve fallen in love with a particular Pottery Barn design, focus on finding a similar silhouette first. You can usually be a little more flexible with the exact wood finish.

Materials and Construction

A lower price doesn’t always mean lower quality, but it’s worth checking what a table is actually made of. Solid wood is a great option, although tables with quality wood veneers can also be beautiful and durable. Look closely at the construction, tabletop thickness, and customer reviews, especially when it comes to how well the finish holds up to everyday use.

Size and Seating

This is one of those purchases where measuring twice really does pay off. Make sure there’s enough room to comfortably pull out chairs and walk around the table. I also love an extendable dining table, particularly if you don’t need seating for eight or ten people every day but like having the option when family or friends come over. Our dining table is extendable and I love the fact that it normally seats 6 but during a holiday meal, I can turn it into seating for 14.

The Little Details

Finally, pay attention to the details that give a dining table its character. A softly rounded edge, a beautifully shaped pedestal, or a slightly worn finish can make all the difference. You don’t need to find an exact replica of a Pottery Barn table. Sometimes a piece that captures the same overall feeling is an even better fit for your home.

Without further ado… here are some of my picks for the best lookalike (or rather similar looking) Pottery Barn inspired dining tables. I’ve included the Pottery Barn dining tables so that you can click through and do your own comparison. It’s always good to do your own due diligence to make sure the dupe is consistent with the particular PB table that you’re admiring.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Rustic Farmhouse Table

This seems to be the be-all and end-all of the classic Pottery Barn dining table when I picture them in my mind: that rustic farmhouse look built with sturdy wood. It has a vintage pine finish for a classic and simple look. The PB table does have extension whereas the dupe does not, but they are quite similar in overall design.

The Pottery Barn Owen Round Pedestal Table is a great option for a casual kitchen dining table. If you’re looking for something similar, go for a simple round hardwood table. A bonus would be if it’s extendable.

Merax Modern Dining Table

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Radcliffe Dining Table

The Radcliffe table has more of a chestnut finish which, while it’s a solid wood rustic-looking table, is a totally different look than rustic farmhouse table linked above. The lookalike is similar in that it has the heavier legs and that darker brown finish.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Newport Dining Table

The Pottery Barn Newport dining table is known for its dramatic angular base and comes in two sizes where it can seat either 8 or 10. Ranging in price from $1,800 to a little over $2,100, I found a great dupe that seats 6 – 8 people and looks very similar and is considerably less in cost.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Benchwright Round Pedestal Table

The PB Benchwright round pedestal table is known for its base that has eight trusses. It comes in four different finishes so I wasn’t necessarily focusing on the finish but more so in finding something that had a similar base.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Banks Extendable Dining Table

The Pottery Barn Banks table is another iconic table. It features a thick wood top and bold dramatic base that feels more like a vintage or antique piece. In looking for a budget-friendly similar alternative, I was relaly focusing on the thicker top and that rustic-elegant base.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Mayen Extendable Dining Table

The Pottery Barn Mayen dining table has such a pretty open corner leg designs that allows for the space under the table to remain totally clear to push in chairs or a bench. In looking for a dupe, that’s what I was focused on. While the dupe is “only” about $1,000 less than the Pottery Barn table, I actually like it much better.

Inspiration: Pottery Barn Kary Round Wood Dining Table

I have to admit, we have a kitchen dining table from the 80s that looks quite similar to the PB Kary table. Meaning? It’s a classic design that will stand the test of time. For the lookalike, I focused on the round top and similar detailing on the base.

I hope you found something that makes sense for your space. While some of these dupes were not HUGE savings (but hey, even something $700 less and looks just as good), I tried to find things that were of equal quality and as similar as possible in design. I’d love to know if you found something you love!
