Life, Lately: 10/30/26
What a week filled with a spooky early morning lacrosse game, endless amounts of halloween candy & sugar, pumpkin carving, making comfort food and, hopefully, what will be the first fire in our fireplace over the weekend! We have had an exceptionally warm October here in Michigan and, fingers crossed, will have a nice night for trick-or-treating for the kids tomorrow night. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Perhaps because I love the fall & October, perhaps because it’s the first chance I have to decorate for a specific season since Easter, or perhaps it’s the nostalgia of how much I looked forward to it as a kid.

Either way, I’m always sorry to say goodbye to October, but as my son pointed out, it means Christmas and the holiday season is that much closer! And, well, who doesn’t love to get in the mood for the comfort of winter hibernation?
This week we went on a fun Halloween forest walk, hosted a pumpkin carving party, and my 6th grader got his first report card and was so proud of his all A’s. So happy for him! I spent an evening out our deck reading until dusk, attended a sound bath meditation on Monday during the full moon and took several walks in our local nature preserve. It was a week chock-full of really lovely, fun experiences. With all the madness happening in the world right now, getting to enjoy these small moments of happiness and making every effort to be fully in the present are keeping me sane and grounded.
As always, here are a few things I’ve been reading, purchasing, making and admiring this week. Enjoy your Halloween weekend, friends! We wont’ get another Saturday Halloween for another 11 years so make the most of it!
I just wrote a post about my favorite evil eye jewelry, clothing and fun accessories. I was inspired to write it because of a good friend’s love of evil eyes and… well, ’tis the spooky season!
This is the cutest Alpaca blend sweater that is so feminine with its sweet little tipped-collar. I especially like it in the sunlight navy and chocolate berry colors but it’s equally cute in all the color combos.
While my husband and I have been binging a number of shows like The Diplomat, I started Below and I have to admit I am addicted! I was on the fence about a sort of sci-fi water monster show but it’s really really good (with some gross bloody bits for good measure).
As for reading? I finished Trad Wife based on a review Stephen King wrote. Not sure I agree with him… I found it to be so-so. But I started the Audible for my bookclub, Someone Else’s Husband as well as reading the harcover of The Thoroughbreds.
I ordered this hair pin and am absolutely loving it as an alternative to scrunchies and claw clips. Not to mention, I think I’ve watched every single Tik Tok video on how to use it with a french twist.
And… all the sweatshirts I’d definitely wear this fall and winter. I’m in my hoodie era, for sure.
We’ve been trying to get ready for the colder months by cutting back our perennials, putting outdoor hoses away, and sealing up any drafty windows and doors. I’ve used this handy guide to recommend what we should be doing this fall to prep for winter.
I am in desperate need for a new tote to carry my laptop and all work supplies. I’ve got this tote ordered and it’s currently on the way. I’m super excited for all the pockets, compartments and organizational items it features. My last tote was just one big open mess and I’m looking forward to being more organized. It even has a pen holder! Be still my heart. I’ve also got my eye on this adjustable half moon crossbody by the same company. I do love a good crossbody bag! (And it’s currently on sale at the time of writing this!)

Happy Halloween weekend, my friends!
